Mailchimp is a great choice as a CRM for event organisers and the most popular email service. In this guide, we'll walk you through getting your Mailchimp account setup and integrated with Evntree.

Why Mailchimp?

In today's fast-paced world, event organisers need a robust CRM system that can handle various forms of communication and streamline their workflow.

Mailchimp stands out as the most popular platform, which often results in higher open rates for email campaigns. Its widespread use means it's a trusted solution for many businesses.

With the recently added SMS feature, Mailchimp now allows you to send SMS campaigns as well, making it easier to manage multiple communication channels from a single platform. However, their SMS platform is currently limited to United Kingdom, United States, Australia and Canada. If you require to send SMS to contacts outside of these locations, consider using Brevo (view setup guide).

Additionally, Mailchimp offers powerful automation features that save time and enhance productivity. The platform's user-friendly interface ensures that setting up and managing your campaigns is straightforward, making Mailchimp an indispensable tool for any event organiser.

Creating your Mailchimp account

To create your Mailchimp account, head to https://mailchimp.com/

We suggest upgrading the the Standard + SMS plan to enable you all the necessary SMS and marketing automation functionality.

Authenticating your domain

To improve your email deliverability and to adhere to new requirements from Google and Yahoo, you will need to authenticate your domain.

If you do not already have a domain, we recommend purchasing one through Namecheap. You will also need to setup an email package such as Starter or Pro to have access to an inbox on your domain.

Navigate to https://us8.admin.mailchimp.com/account/domains/

Under the Email Domains section, click Add & Verify Domain.

You will need to verify an email you have on your domain. Follow the link sent to your email and your domain will then be authenticated.

Finding your API key

Your API key is what allows Evntree to send registrations straight to your Mailchimp account. Always keep this safe and do not share with anybody else.

Head to https://us8.admin.mailchimp.com/account/api/ and create a new key

Copy this value as we'll need it for the next step. Once you close the popup you will not be able to see this value again due to security reasons.

Connecting with Evntree

Navigate to your organisation's setting, and to the API Keys tab.

Paste in your API key in the field labelled Mailchimp API Key then click Update.

To check that your API is working, click the Test Connection button.

Choosing your audience

Before sending data to Mailchimp, you will need to create a relevant audience on the Audiences page - https://us8.admin.mailchimp.com/audience/contacts/

Consider creating a new audience for each brand or organisation you manage, and then to segment further we will use tags.

Once you have created the list, it should now show in the dropdown shown in the previous point. You can also add multiple tags which will be added to your contacts upon a successful registration.

Your Evntree and Mailchimp should now be connected. When a user registers on your page, the data will automatically insert into your Mailchimp audience.
